Lowry Range

The Lowry Range is one of the most interesting properties held in trust by the State Land Board. Located in unincorporated Arapahoe County about 20 miles southeast of Metro Denver, the Lowry Range is one of the largest contiguous parcels under single ownership by a major metropolitan area in the country. Current lessees use the property for grazing, recreation and minerals development.

Approximately 26,000 acres in size, the Lowry Range covers about 40 square miles of land. In comparison, the city of Boulder covers about 25 square miles of land and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge is about 16,965 acres in size.

The Lowry Range is not open for public access. There is no public hunting allowed on the property.  Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office will ticket and/or prosecute any persons found illegally on The Range.

Previously part of a former US Air Force Military Training Site, the Lowry Range still has areas of former bomb target sites located on the property. The property is being remediated by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District. Click here for more information.

On February 11, 2013, the State Land Board issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to select an experienced consultant to develop a Holistic Management Plan (HMP) for future agricultural operations on all 26,000 acres of the Lowry Range. This planning process is designed to help inform the State Land Board regarding goals for ecological restoration on this property, which is a mix of shortgrass and Piedmont tallgrass prairie, with cottonwood riparian corridors on two different creeks. Information to respond to this RFP is provided below, including the request and corresponding information required to submit a proposal. The original Integrated Resource Management Plan for the Lowry Range, adopted in April 2012, is also available for review below.

Any questions regarding this RFP should be directed to Mindy Gottsegen, Stewardship Trust and Conservation Services Manager, at mindy.gottsegen@state.co.us, or via phone at (303) 866-3454, ext 3318.
